This is a re-post of a previous page as I am re-arranging my website. Thanks for your understanding.
We finally dug into the rusty old springs from the baby bed we bought on the 100 mile KANOLKA garage sale a couple of years ago. I had actually seen this same bed the year before, but felt the price was too high. This time, we bought it. We have dissected the baby bed into a couple of different projects – mainly the head and foot into trellises in our yard for clematis to climb. Not much to that project – paint if you like and stick in the ground! We painted ours a bright orange so as to attract birds. The better part of the project was the springs. But these sat in the garage for two years. That is how I Pinterest! Get an idea… the supplies… and sit on it!
There are a few different kinds of springs out there, so that will determine how you end up using them. Pinterest has tons of ideas – here is how that worked out for me.
First, I had my DH cut them off of the frame. This is not really that difficult (especially if I am not doing it lol) – if you use the right tool. Once the wire is cut, the spring just “spins” off. Once they are off the frame – it is up to you! If they are really rusty, you can hand sand the rust off. Or you can spray paint them. Or you can leave them in whatever state that you find them. I choose the last option. I like the vintage, shabby look.
Here are a couple of things I used mine for – an antique spoon holder and an antique bobbin holder. There are A LOT of them -so I will probably update this when I decide if I will make snowmen, or Christmas trees or candle holders with my collectible Jello molds – and if I will give them as gifts or keep them for myself.
Find an old set of bed springs, and maybe a friend to share the bounty with, and get to snipping those wires!
And I know you all love my photography skills… I will get better!
UPDATE: I made snowmen and snow women from these springs. Please check my SHOP tab to see where you can purchase them!
